Can Vaccination End The Pandemic Entirely?

It is unfortunate to learn that the world is battling Covid-19 for more than a year. However, the vaccinations in the market like Oxford/AstraZeneca is bringing in a ray of hope. But, will the life hit back normalcy after vaccination is the real question here.

Once a vaccine is made available it will take its course to inoculate the billions that need it. The progress will be very slow as it has to be carefully monitored and distributed at every given stage. In the meanwhile, the coronavirus is not going to sit back and watch the progress. It will get back in some different form or other. This is an expected race so far.

Vaccinations like Oxford/AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Novavax, Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines could be a potential opportunity and the pandemic will definitely slow down but it won’t completely end soon.  Because the vaccinations would happen more rapidly in richer Western countries than the rest of the globe. So, keeping the current pace in mind, it might take nearly seven years for the world to recover completely.

It is well comprehended that a safe and effective vaccine may very well be the ultimate end of the pandemic, but let us not forget that no vaccination is a silver bullet. We have enormous and unprecedented effort and resources in the global scientific community devoted to this, but we don’t know yet what form it will take like – Will it be 100% effective? or 50%? Will it give lifelong immunity, or will we need booster shots every six months? Ergo, no one is safe until everyone is safe!
