Covid Vaccination May Cost Rs 500 Per Shot

The much-awaited Covid vaccination is all set to launch in the private sector and it is likely to be price Rs 400-500 per shot. But the figure may vary as the discussions are still on. The Central government has announced that the vaccination will roll out from March 1 in 236 private hospitals in Telangana. And all these 236 hospitals fall under private, corporate and super speciality under the list of Arogyasri network hospitals in TG.

However, it is still unclear whether the vaccinations would be delivered by the government medical centre or directly by the companies. With Rs 400-500 per shot, an overall charge of Rs 800/1000 for the two-dose regimen is required for the Covid vaccines. In conclusion, we are having high volume business rather than high margin business. And that means, profit per vial is low and the profit is made by selling billions of vaccine vials instead of profit per vial is high and the vaccine is costly.

On Wednesday, it was made clear that the government facilities will offer the vaccine for free but those getting the shot at private hospitals would have to pay for it. Currently, India is procuring Covishield, developed by Oxford University researchers, and it is one of the two vaccines being administered as part of India’s immunisation drive. The second is Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.
