MG George Muthoot, chairman of Muthoot Group has been passed away at the age of 72. According to media reports George had collapsed at his home last evening and the family members immediately rushed him to Delhi’s Escort hospital. However, the doctors have declared him dead already.
George Muthoot was the third generation of his family to be the Chairman of Muthoot Group and he was one of the six Malayalees who made it to the Forbes Magazine’s Rich List in 2020.
Born on November 2, 1949 in Kozhencherry, George became the Managing Director of the Muthoot Group in 1979 and its Chairman in 1993. Under his leadership, Muthoot Finance emerged as India’s largest gold loan company with over 5,000 branches. Now the group is expanding its international branches as well.
George was survived by his wife Sarah George Muthoot, and sons George M. George, Alexander George. Learning about his passing away, politicians and industrialists have expressed their deep condolences to their family members.
