Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam ended Virat Kohli’s long supremacy in the ICC ODI rankings. Babar Azam now secured the first position in the latest rankings released by ICC. He now has 865 points while Kohli has 857 points on the table. India’s opener Rohit Sharma is in the third position with 825 points.
Kohli’s reign as the No.1 batsman continued from August 2017 to April 2021. It lasted exactly 1258 days. Babar Azam recently remained the second-highest scorer in the ODI series held against South Africa. He scored 228 runs in the series with a high score of 103. Babar Azam is the fourth Pakistani batsman to become the top batsman in ODIs. Zaheer Abbas (1983-84), Javed Miandad (1988-89), and Mohammad Yousuf (2003) are the players who achieved this feat in the past.
Babar is currently in the sixth position among ICC Test rankings and in the third position among T20I rankings. The star batsman is continuing his supreme form in the ongoing T20I series against South Africa as well. He is currently the top scorer of the series with 186 runs. He scored a century last night and helped his team win the game by nine wickets.
