Covid-19 Vaccine Price: Bharat Biotech Follows Serum

Post Serum Institute of India (SII) announcing the prices of Covid-19 vaccine, Bharat Biotech too revealed its prices. However the vaccine being produced by Bharat Biotech Covaxin is more expensive. It is priced at Rs 600 per dose and it is for the state.

Following the flak from all corners, SII has reduced the price to states by Rs 100 per dose and Bharat biotech has fallen in this line. The Hyderabad based out company has announced a reduction of Rs 200 which means the vaccine for states is now at Rs 400 per dose.

“Recognizing the enormous challenges to the public health care system, we have made Covaxin available to the state governments at a price of Rs 400 per dose. We wish to be transparent in our approach to pricing which was determined by internally funded product development, several operational-intensive BSL-3 manufacturing facilities and clinical trials,” said Bharat Biotech in a statement.

Though the reduction is a saviour, the price of Rs 400 per dose is still expensive for the states considering a majority of them are planning to distribute at free of cost.
