Bill Gates Quit Board As Microsoft Investigated His Affair With Employee

The breakup of Bill Gates and Melinda is shedding new light alleging that Gates behaved badly in work-related settings. Microsoft Corp board members conducted an investigation into co-founder Bill gates prior romantic relationship with a female Microsoft employee citing it inappropriate at a workplace, The board members made a decision last year post looking into the matter that it is not right for the billionaire to continue sitting on its board.

In late 2019, Microsoft directors hired a law firm to conduct an investigation after a Microsoft employee alleged in a letter that she had a sexual relationship with Gates over several years. The popular news edition, the journal wrote that Gates resigned before the board’s investigation was finished, citing another person familiar with the matter.

The Journal also had a spokeswoman for Gates acknowledged the fact that Gates had an affair almost 20 years ago, and that it ended “amicably.” She further added,  “his decision to transition off the board was in no way related to this matter.” Last year when Gates left the board he said he was stepping down to focus on philanthropy.

In an email sent to the Associated Press yesterday, Microsoft said that it “received a concern in the latter half of 2019 that Bill Gates sought to initiate an intimate relationship with a company employee in the year 2000. A committee of the Board reviewed the concern, aided by an outside law firm, to conduct a thorough investigation. Throughout the investigation, Microsoft provided extensive support to the employee who raised the concern.”

Ever since 2008, Gates hasn’t been active in the office. Gates co-founded the software company in 1975 and served as its CEO until 2000, the same year his foundation was started, and was chairman until February 2014. A few weeks ago, Bill and Melinda Gates announced that they were divorcing after 27 years of marriage but would keep working together at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, one of the largest charitable foundations in the world.
