Delimitation: Why People Are Not Convinced by Modi & Shah?

The entire Indian political landscape is currently debating the lead delimitation bill that is proposed by the NDA alliance and the Parliament today. The opposition parties have taken a serious opposition stance to this and there’s a lot of debate happening on the same. 

This necessitated an official clarification from the main men of the alliance, Amit Shah and Narendra Modi, and here is what they had to say on the same. 

According to the official clarification issued by union home minister Amit Shah down below is the segregation of the South Indian states and their new position after delimitation. 

Karnataka has 28 seats, and 5.15 percent of the 543 seats in the House. After the passage of the bill, the number of Karnataka MPs will increase from 28 to 42, and the percentage in the Lok Sabha will increase to 5.44. Karnataka will not suffer any loss at all.

Andhra Pradesh has 25 seats, which is 4.60 percent. After the passage of the bill, the number of MPs will increase from 25 to 38. which will be 4.65 per cent.

Telangana has 17 seats, which is 3.13 per cent. After the passage of the bill, the number of MPs will increase from 17 to 26, which will be 3.18 percent.

Tamil Nadu has 49 seats, which is 7.18 per cent, After the passage of the bill, the number of MPs will be 59, and their percentage in the new House of 816 will be 7.23 per cent. Tamil Nadu will also suffer no loss

Kerala has 20 seats, which is 3.68 per cent. After the passage of the bill, the number of MPs will be 30 and their percentage in the new House will be 3.67 per cent.

Prime Minister Modi got up and spoke his version as he said “I want to say responsibly today that this will not discriminate against anyone. This decision process will not be unfair to anyone. The government that was in power earlier, the delimitation of the seats, and the ratio that has been in place since then, will remain unchanged, and the ratio will remain the same.” 

The gravity of the matter was such that both Amit Shah and Modi had to give an elongated speech in the parliament. This has no resulted in a public discourse that there would not have been as much confusion if this detail was clearly mentioned in the bill itself, rather than the clarification from Modi now.
