Once a star director, Sreenu Vaitla’s career graph took a nosedive with back-to-back flops at the Box Office. One major BO dud in his career was Mahesh Babu-starrer Aagadu. Sreenu Vaitla has done introspection on Aagadu’s disaster result and the factors that led to the film’s disappointment.
Talking in a talk show, Sreenu Vaitla was candid best. He opened about Aagadu’s failure. He said, “Usually, my films have good following among family and youth audiences who enjoy more comedy. They expect more ‘class’ elements. I’m not an ‘Oora Mass’ director. With ‘Dookudu’, I had tried to explore the ‘mass’ elements in Mahesh Babu which fans got thrilled. With this, there was a lot of pressure from Mahesh’s fans to do an outright ‘mass’ film with Mahesh. That’s when ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ was released. I had called Mahesh from Bangkok and told him that I’d like to make a film on those lines with ‘Dookudu’ style. Mahesh had liked the idea and agreed to do it.”
“Unfortunately, our producers suffered due to the result of their another film. Keeping producers in mind, I’ve kept my idea aside and planned a film with rural milieu and decided to optimally use Mahesh’s acting stamina with it. Dialogues were written with speed. They have become more ‘massy’. Audiences couldn’t accept such ‘mass’ from Mahesh and me. That’s why ‘Aagadu’ was failure. Both Mahesh and me had believed in Aagadu. Naturally, we were very disappointed with the film’s result. I have learnt a lot from Aagadu’s failure.”
Vaitla said that he has three good stories in his hand right now which he is very confident of. He said if these films turn out to be hit, he said he would plan a massive movie with Mahesh Babu and deliver a blockbuster again. He said he would continue to generate ‘comedy’ with his films in coming days. He added that he would give more ‘content’ to meme-makers.
