This Desi Super Hero Film Is A Super Surprise

Many times, the likes of Rakesh Roshan tried to prove it big with their superhero films like Krishh, but none of them has truly excited the audience like Spiderman or Batman. However, Malayalam film Minnal Murali (Merupu Murali in Telugu) has stunned everyone out there and sat on the top charts of Netflix ever since it was released on the OTT platform last week. And here’s why it is a surprise.

All superhero films will have two things in common, which happens to be the power the hero wields and the target he will have which is nothing but saving the world. And as India’s superheroes like Krish did it, the low-quality visual effects always turned out to be duds making those films lose credibility in the end. But then came Minnal Murali, whose superhero setup was just limited to a small village.

Choosing a simple background made sure that director Basil Joseph need not focus extensively on creating realistic visual effects as villages don’t have many big setups. Aptly supported by a dramatic screenplay, Minnal Murali tells the story of two people who get superpowers and how one chooses to be a good guy while the other one turns villain. Though the whole setup reminds us of Spiderman story, surely the execution has thrilled the audience.

Featuring Tovino Thomas in the title role, the film made many spellbound and now we could expect some more superhero films coming up. Back then Jiva’s Mugamoodi, Vikram’s Mallanna too had a similar touch, but their big backdrop failed to do justice. So we have to see how Minnal Murali inspired desi superhero films will be like now.
