Day 1: Avatar Fails To Beat Avengers: Endgame!

James Cameron’s directorial Avatar: The Way of Water was released in theatres on Friday. The film opened to big expectations at the box office and surprisingly, the movie could not beat the existing record in the name of Avengers: Endgame at the Indian box office.

The first part of the franchise, Avatar was the highest-grossing release of all time with $2.9 billion worldwide. However, the second part began on a grand note but it could not register the desired number at the box office. As per the latest trade reports, the film reportedly opened at 38 Cr rupees gross at the box office.

Avatar: The way of water has become the second-biggest Hollywood opener of all time in India. The 2019 film Avengers: Endgame earned Rs 53.10 crore on its opening day. But, Avatar: The way of water earned Rs 38.50 to Rs 40.50 crore gross at the box office on its opening day.

Surprisingly, the majority of the revenue has come from the South Indian market, when compared to the North. Despite the Telugu and Tamil versions being made available for the audiences, the English version clicked well.

The film features Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Zoe Saldaana, and Kate Winslet in the lead roles.
