Avatar 2: Why USA And China Markets Gave Hand?

Avatar (1)

At the time many thought that James Cameron’s “Avatar 2” will do terrific Box Office magic in its opening weekend, the film hasn’t matched the expectations as it failed to touch even the $500 million mark.

Of course, the situation is quite a different one post Covid crisis across the globe, but then none thought that touching the ‘First Weekend’ record of “Avengers: End Game” will be miles away for this movie.

In its 5-day weekend, Avengers: End Game collected a gross of $1.2 Billion in its first global weekend and posted $500 million in the first 3 days. “Avatar 2” hasn’t touched that coveted figure in three days because of two territories, they are none other than USA and China.

In USA, Avengers: End Game was released towards the end of April, an ideal time for big releases. That led to huge footfalls. But now that Avatar 2 is releasing during the Christmas season, the chilling winters and the holiday mood of the audience are not much in favour of films for big openings.

Coming to China, though reports are not being given officially by the country, international media rumoured that the country is hit by Covid again. Nearly 30% of the film theatres in the country were shut and the remaining theatres are operating with only a 50% occupancy rule. That is the reason, a film like Avatar 2 has registered the lowest collections there, opine experts.

Anyway, with word of mouth good for the film, it might pick up this week and finally it might post big numbers by the time its run gets ended.
