Rajamouli Wins Best Director At NYFCC

Director SS Rajamouli has scripted history by winning Best Director award at the New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) for the film ‘RRR.’ Rajamouli’s son Karthikeya shared this news and also pictures from awards ceremony, NYFCC.

Rajamouli received a resounding ovation while taking the award. In his speech Rajamouli said he is overwhelmed by this award and thanked the jury of NYFCC. “This award is just not a recognition to my cast and crew but to a small film industry that exists in southern India. With this award, Telugu film industry will become familiar to movie buffs,” said Rajamouli. The director shared his journey into the film industry and working for such magnum opus projects like ‘RRR’ in his acceptance speech.

“I feel excited like a kid as I enter a cinema hall and when the lights fade away. The film that inspired me the most is ‘Terminator 2’ and I always have a look of joy on my face watching that movie. Similarly I want the audience to sport the same expression when they watch my film,” said Rajamouli.

“I want my heroes to be larger than life but not super humans. They need to be strong and emotional. I essentially make films for Indians across the world but the experience of viewing a cinema in an Indian theatre is incredible. On the first day, you won’t hear anything because people will be going crazy inside the cinema hall. With ‘RRR’ I have seen a similar reception in the West. I went to New York, Los Angeles and Chicago and checked the reactions of American audiences,” added Rajamouli.

Thanking his family, Rajamouli mentioned music composer Keeravani, his wife Rama Rajamouli, son Karthikeya, sister-in-law Srivalli, his father Vijayendra Prasad, nephew Kaala Bhairava and others.
