New Year 2024: What’s in store for Tollywood?

2023 was a year of mixed fortunes, embracing triumphs and setbacks in Tollywood. The film industry witnessed notable successes, delivered compelling narratives, attained global recognition, and even clinched Oscar victories.

However, there were instances of films adhering to dated ideas and formulaic approaches, resulting in a fair share of failures. Many new directors failed to bring fresh and distinctive ideas to the table, leaving the majority of Telugu films within the familiar boundaries of conventional storytelling.

Although “Salaar” claimed the title of the highest-grossing Telugu film, its success was predominantly confined to Telugu audiences, with only a moderate impact in Hindi. The film failed to make a significant mark in other languages.

Yet, as the curtain fell on 2023, the dawn of a promising year, 2024, awaits the Telugu film industry. Tollywood filmmakers are gearing up for a remarkable year, with several ambitious pan-Indian projects in the pipeline.

Among the highly anticipated pan-Indian films slated for 2024 are NTR’s “Devara: Part 1,” Prabhas’ starrer “Kalki (2898 AD),” Allu Arjun’s “Pushpa: The Rule,” and Ram Charan’s “Game Changer.”

These films can potentially captivate audiences nationwide and redefine Telugu cinema’s landscape on a grand scale.

Additionally, a slew of intriguing titles like Mahesh Babu’s “Guntur Kaaram,” Teja Sajja-Prashanth Varma’s “Hanu Man,” Akkineni Nagarjuna’s “Naa Saami Ranga,” Venkatesh’s “Saindhav,” Vijay Deverakonda’s “Family Star,” Varun Tej’s “Operation Valentine,” Siddhu Jonnalagadda’s “Tilu Square,” Ravi Teja’s “Eagle,” “Mr. Bachchan,” Naga Chaitanya’s “Thandel,” “Mega156,” “NBK109,” Pawan Kalyan’s “OG,” and Adivi Sesh’s “G2” have generated considerable excitement, hinting at a prosperous box office run in the new year.

Projects like SSMB29, featuring Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli; Spirit with Prabhas and Sandeep Reddy Vanga; # NTR31, starring NTR and directed by Prashanth Neel; and #RC16, a collaboration between Ram Charan and Buchi Babu, are among the most eagerly awaited ventures that will be launched in the new year.

The stage is set, and anticipation runs high for the cinematic treasures that 2024 holds in store.
