This Friday is going to be a Sivarathri holiday and that’s giving a 3-day holiday period for Tollywood to explore. Of course, there will be many such holiday weekends coming up in a year, but this one is very important for the Telugu film industry at the given moment.
For the film industry to thrive well, the success rate of movies at the box office is very important. The last time Tollywood saw the box office minting money was in the Sankranthi season when four films were released. Of them, one turned out to be a blockbuster and one worked well, while two others didn’t do, but still they collectively raked up more than ₹400+ crores in revenue. And that happened two months ago, and since then there has been no single happy moment for the Telugu box office.
While a couple of films have worked out in terms of content, they didn’t rake up huge money at the box office giving oxygen to the trade. And that brings us to the Friday’s releases, Vishwaksen’s Gaami and Gopichand’s Bhimaa, whose success is very important to Tollywood. Though the theatrical collection pressure on these two films is a nominal one, surely their success will kickstart the early-summer season in a big way.
If these two films score well, the gloomy mood in the last month will fade off for sure. Let’s see what happens.
