It is easy for a film of any hero to collect crores of money at the Box Office when it receives positive word of mouth from the audience and good reviews from the critics. A hero’s Box Office potential will always be defined not based on the money a hit film of him collects at the Box Office but based on the money made at the Box Office by a film of him that receives negative word of mouth from the audience and negative reviews from the critics.
There are many heroes at the moment in Tamilnadu who have immense fan following and can deliver blockbuster box-office hits with good films. Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith, Suriya, Vikram, Dhanush, Sivakarthikeyan, all of these heroes are more than capable of delivering box-office blockbusters with good films both at domestic and overseas markets.
But there is only one hero at the moment in Kollywood who is critics proof, reviews proof and word of mouth has no relevance to his movies at the box office. He is none other than ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay. He is one hero who commands equal following and craze among both youth and family audiences. And, he is the only hero in Kollywood at the moment who has a very good market not just in Tamilnadu and in India but in around twenty countries overseas.
Beast, Varisu, Leo and The Greatest of All Time(GOAT) are his last four films. Not even a single film out of these four received unanimous positive word-of-mouth and yet all these four films made a lot of money to the distributors and exhibitors across the world. His film with Nelson Dilipkumar, Beast in fact received disaster talk and it was released alongside the most anticipated sequel, KGF – Chapter 2 and yet the film sustained at the box office and ended up becoming a safe venture for almost all the involved distributors.
Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, Vijay’s GOAT, Superstar Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan & Suriya’s Kanguva are the four big films from Kollywood that were released in the last few months and none of these four films received positive word of mouth from the audience. All other three films failed to counter the negative word of mouth and crashed at the box office. Only Vijay’s film, GOAT collected about four hundred crores gross worldwide by withstanding negative reviews. The film did phenomenal business both in Tamilnadu and international markets.
Vijay recently announced his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and is going to shift his complete focus on politics aiming for huge success in the Tamilnadu Assembly Elections in 2026, after finishing his last film, Thalapathy69 which is being directed by H. Vinoth. Vijay’s absence at the box office is without a doubt going to be a huge loss for the producers, distributors, exhibitors and all other stakeholders from the industry.
