The Telugu film industry is shining by delivering back-to-back pan-India hits. Malayalam cinema is delivering blockbusters with content-driven films. However, Tamil Cinema, which is known to make both commercial and content-driven films, is failing to prove its mettle at the box office.
None of the big films are working. Pan-India plans aren’t panning out well. Things aren’t going smoothly for Kollywood. On top of it, many of its top directors are either outdated or working with heroes of other film industries.
Lokesh Kanagaraj and Nelson are trending top directors of Kollywood. They are currently working on Coolie and Jailer 2 respectively. After that, Lokesh will team up with Bollywood star Aamir Khan and Nelson will join hands with Telugu star Jr NTR.
AR Murugadoss is making Sikander with Salman Khan. Atlee has settled in Bollywood already with Jawan and seems to have no plans of making a straight Tamil film.
Seniors like Shankar and Vishnu Vardhan are out of form. Shankar’s Indian 2 and Game Changer ended up as flops. On the other side, Vishnu Vardhan’s Nesippaya became a colossal flop. Karthik Subburaj is out of form and so is Gautam Menon.
With all top directors either working with other industry actors or being out of form, Kollywood’s destiny remains in question.
