Just one day before its big theatre release, Bhool Chook Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao, has taken a surprising turn. The film’s makers suddenly announced that it will skip theatres and go straight to Amazon Prime Video on May 16.
This sudden decision has shocked everyone in the film industry, especially theatre owners and distributors. Advance bookings had already started, tickets were selling well, and promotions were in full swing. Everything was set—until this unexpected move.
The production house claimed that “sensitive conditions in the country” led them to cancel the theatre release. But many in the industry are questioning this reason. While there have been some tense developments in recent news, cinemas across India are still running normally.
Distributors, who had planned shows and made deals, are now angry and frustrated. Many had hoped this film would bring some buzz back to the box office. Now, refund processes are underway for tickets that were already sold.
