Murugadoss Reveals Where Things Went Wrong

Once considered one of the top directors in South India, Murugadoss shined with films like Ramana (remade in Telugu as Tagore), Ghajini, Thuppakki and Kaththi. His Hindi remake of Ghajini broke several records in Bollywood at that time. Even Megastar Chiranjeevi and Superstar Mahesh Babu worked with him with great expectations. However, while Stalin with Chiranjeevi had only a decent run, Spyder with Mahesh turned out to be a disaster.

After Spyder, nothing seemed to work for Murugadoss. Films like Darbar and Sikandar ended up as disappointments, one after another. After watching Sikandar, many felt that the director had completely lost his touch. Now, Murugadoss is trying to make a strong comeback with Sivakarthikeyan’s film Madharasi, which is set to release on September 5. As part of the promotions, he has been giving interviews and in one such interaction, he explained the reasons behind his failures.

Murugadoss revealed that after making 7th Sense with Suriya, he started writing the script for Thuppakki. But even before completing it fully, the project went on floors because Vijay liked some of the narrated episodes and gave an immediate nod. That film turned into a blockbuster. The same thing happened again with Kaththi, and both successes gave him the feeling that he had mastered the art of filmmaking.

However, Murugadoss admitted that working on incomplete scripts was a mistake. He said that this approach had a major impact on his later films and led to a series of failures. Speaking about Sikandar with Salman Khan, he said he had very little control over the project.

Now, Murugadoss is confident that Madharasi will give him the much-needed break. He also revealed that there is scope for a sequel to Thuppakki. Since the climax shows the hero going back to the border, the continuation of his life story can be explored in a second part. He expressed his interest in making that film if everything falls into place.
