Malayalam cinema’s first-ever female superhero film, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, is all set to have a pan-Indian release today as an Onam festive treat. The film features young Malayalam actress Kalyani Priyadarshan in a lead role, and it is produced by popular Mollywood actor Dulquer Salmaan.
Yesterday, just a few hours before its grand global release, Lokah ran into unexpected trouble. IMAX Vice President Preetham Daniel took to X and clarified that Lokah is not releasing on IMAX and went on to thank Dulquer’s production house, Wayfarer Films, for taking down the post announcing the film’s IMAX release.
Incidentally, using the IMAX logo without proper agreements or prior approvals invites strict action. Recently, the makers of Rajinikanth’s Coolie were reportedly fined for using the IMAX logo and releasing a poster to announce Coolie’s IMAX release without proper agreements in place.
It’s high time producers avoided such costly mistakes and ensured all necessary approvals were in place before making public announcements. Coming to Malayalam cinema, Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Empuraan is the only Malayalam film to be released in IMAX to date.
