Who’s Directing the Rajini-Kamal Multistarrer?

For months, everyone have been waiting to know more about the much-talked-about multistarrer starring Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. The idea of bringing two of India’s biggest stars together has created huge buzz across the country. Both actors have confirmed the project in separate occasions, but one key detail remains unclear, who is directing it?

Initially, reports suggested Lokesh Kanagaraj would direct the film. Lokesh has previously worked with both stars, Kamal Haasan in Vikram and Rajinikanth in Coolie. However, sources now indicate that Lokesh was not convinced by the script and decided to focus instead on Kaithi 2, the sequel to his breakout hit Kaithi (2019), which also connects to his cinematic universe.

The multistarrer is being jointly produced by RKFI and Red Giant Movies. According to reports, the production houses have been in talks with several young directors who can handle the scale and expectations of a film starring Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Names like Karthik Subbaraj, who made Petta with Rajinikanth, and Love Today director Pradeep Ranganathan were considered.

Now, new speculation points toward Nelson Dilipkumar, who directed Jailer and is currently filming its sequel Jailer 2. Though there’s no official confirmation yet, Nelson’s track record with Rajinikanth and his distinct dark-comedy style make him the leading choice for the project.

As of now, Rajinikanth continues shooting for Jailer 2, while Kamal Haasan awaits the release of Indian 3, directed by Shankar. Fans are eagerly waiting for an official announcement to see who will finally bring these two legends together on screen.
