The long-delayed collaboration between Jr NTR and Prashanth Neel, tentatively titled Dragon, was announced in 2020. The film finally went on floors this year after several postponements. Reports say the team has scrapped a few portions shot earlier and plans to restart with new changes.
A fresh schedule is expected to begin in November. Along with this, talk has emerged that the film may now be made in two parts. The reason, reports say, is the length and scale of the story, which could be too vast for a single film.
A source close to the project said discussions are ongoing, but no final call has been taken. Still, the idea of splitting it into two parts is clearly under consideration.
This is not new for Prashanth Neel. His earlier blockbusters KGF and Salaar also began as single films before being extended into two parts. However, Dragon might be shot differently. Neel reportedly plans to film both parts in one stretch and release them closer together, unlike his previous projects that came out years apart.
Releasing two parts within a short gap is an uncommon trend in Indian cinema. The format often struggles at the box office, as the first installment usually takes time to connect with audiences and build anticipation for the sequel. Time will tell what the makers of Dragon are planning and how they intend to approach this ambitious release strategy.
Dragon features Jr NTR and Rukmini Vasanth in lead roles. The film is directed by Prashanth Neel and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. Music is composed by Ravi Basrur. An official announcement on the two-part plan is expected once the makers finalize their decision.
