Music maestro AR Rahman is an outspoken celebrity and often gets candid about his personal life. He never shies away from talking about his religion and never makes any controversial statements. This is why he is one of most loved film celebs across the country. In his recent media interaction, the Oscar winning composer has opened up on why he converted into a Muslim after embracing Sufism.
During his podcast with Nikhil Kamath, Rahman said he is fan of all religions and admitted to studying Islam, Hinduism and Christianity before taking up Sufism and changing his name from Dilip Kumar to Rahman. He further stated that only problem is killing or harming people in the name of religion. He said people of different religions, who speak different languages, come together to celebrate when he performs on stage.
Rahman also opened up why he was drawn towards Sufism. He said Sufism is like dying before dying and added that nobody is forced to convert to the path of Sufism. He also revealed that Sufi path not only lifted him spiritually but also his mother. He opines that commonality of faith is what he loves and the sincerity with which everyone embraces their own religion is what is measured.
Rahman’s honest confession about his conversion from Hinduism to Sufism is now going viral because this has often been a topic of debate in the public. Despite lots of debate around his decision, he never tried to hide his intentions in taking up a new religion. He once reiterated why he choose to change his spiritual path.
