Trade Buzz: Thalapathy Dominated Thalaivar in Tamil Nadu?

Thalaivar Rajinikanth commands unrivalled box office clout among Kollywood actors. Only Thalapathy Vijay comes close to Rajinikanth in terms of pre-release business and other trade aspects when compared to the present generation of stars. But, Vijay’s farewell film Jana Nayagan is likely to dominate Rajinikanth’s market in Tamil Nadu as per the latest buzz in trade circles. 

As Jana Nayagan will be the final film for Vijay, who enjoys a phenomenal fanbase and immense stardom, the craze for theatrical rights all over Tamil Nadu is quite stupendous. With Vijay set to take plunge into full time politics and bid goodbye to his illustrious acting career, fans and moviegoers are keen to witness his screen presence for one last time. So, the demand of Jana Nayagan is reportedly unprecedented and massive. 

Sources revealed that Jana Nayagan is going to create an all time record with its pre-release business deals by surpassing the previous highest set by Rajinikanth starrer Coolie. While Coolie did a mind-blowing business of 100 Crores in Tamil Nadu alone, Vijay’s Jana Nayagan has reportedly fetched 105 Crores from the same territory and this is a new record for Tamil films. If this buzz turns out to be true, Vijay has clearly dominated Rajinikanth on home turf. 

While many of the current generation actors failed to match Rajinikanth’s market, Vijay emerged as a fierce competitor over the years with his enviable box office records. Vijay’s films get bumper openings worldwide on par with Rajinikanth. So, most of the box office records among Tamil films are shared by both Rajinikanth and Vijay. 

As Vijay announced that Jana Nayagan will be his last filmy appearance, there is a lot of buzz surrounding the film all over including trade circles. It is slated for release on January 9th as a Pongal treat.
