Ever since Superstar Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated sequel Jailer 2 was announced, there have been rumours in Kollywood industry that seasoned Telugu star Nandamuri Balakrishna will play an extended cameo as a powerful police officer. Director Nelson Dilip Kumar has reportedly penned an impactful role that suits Balakrishna’s image and mannerisms.
Given the cordial and long-standing rapport with Rajinikanth, many believed that Balakrishna would not turn down the special role. However, the latest reports suggest that the makers have replaced Balayya with Vijay Sethupathi who just started shooting for his role in the ongoing Goa schedule. Tamil media reporting that Vijay agreed to appear in the brief yet effective role after Balakrishna rejected it due to his busy commitments.
Earlier, there were reports that Pushpa fame Fahad Fasil is the forerunner to replace Balakrishna. But, it seems like the team finally zeroed in Vijay Sethupathi for the cameo role which was supposed to feature Balakrishna. So, this development might put an end to the suspense on whether Balayya will be a part of this sequel or not.
Jailer 2 has already onboarded a flurry of renowned artists from different languages. Vidya Balan, Shivaraj Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, Mohan Lal, SJ Surya. Vijay Sethupathi was the latest addition to the star-studded casting.
The film, which is the coming from stables of Sun Pictures, will have music by Anirudh Ravichander. It is slated for release in the middle of 2026.
