Mani Ratnam in Search for Lead Pair for His Next Film

Mani Ratnam is one of the legendary filmmakers in Indian cinema history, with a career spanning over four decades. He has made many iconic love stories, many of which have remained classics for audiences. Recently, he made Ponniyin Selvan in two parts, which saw good success in Tamil. However, his last outing, Thug Life with Kamal Haasan, was a big disappointment for both audiences and the trade. Mani Ratnam is now gearing up for a romantic drama as his next film.

Mani Ratnam’s upcoming film, a love story, was supposed to go on floors this year, but for a few reasons, it did not. This romantic drama is said to be a cop love story, and Mani Ratnam has been looking for the right cast for the past six months. As things stand today, the casting has not been finalized. A few actor names have been circulating, but nothing concrete has emerged.

Mani Ratnam initially thought of casting Dhruv, son of actor Vikram, along with Rukmini Vasanth. Dhruv recently delivered a hit with Bison, and Rukmini is currently in the big league as she is working on a few of the biggest projects in Indian cinema. She was last seen in Kantara Chapter 1. However, things did not proceed, and Dhruv and Rukmini Vasanth are not part of the film.

Now, reports suggest that the cop romantic drama has come to talented actors Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi, two highly acclaimed performers who have proved their prowess in recent years. If this casting materializes, it will be the first film featuring Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi together. Both actors are yet to make a call. It is also heard that Natural Star Nani is under consideration for Mani Ratnam’s film. Though these names are circulating, an official casting announcement has to come from the makers. It will be interesting to see who will be part of Mani Ratnam’s romantic drama, which he has envisioned for 2026.
