Legendary James Cameron’s Bold Take On AI In Film Making

It is becoming increasingly evident that artificial intelligence is going to be a part of the human lifestyle in the days to follow. AI is now being used at multiple levels right from day to day operations to something as complex as cinema making and robotics. 

Coming to the topic now, legendary Hollywood film maker James Cameron has spoken about the increased prominence for AI in filmmaking, and he firmly opposed the same.

While interacting with iconic Indian filmmaker, Rajamouli ahead of the release of Avatar third part, Cameron was asked about the usage of AI in films and he said “It’s Dangerous. You could ask it to show you something that looks like Avatar, it could do that now, but it couldn’t do that before 2009. We don’t go to movies for mediocrity”

The implication here is that Cameron feels AI is making magical realism a reality at fingertips which wasn’t the case a few years ago. He was of the impression that this extreme advancement takes away creativity, and “X” factor from cinema. 

While legendary film makers like Cameron are opposing AI usage in films, it must be noted that certain modern film makers have been advocating in its favourite. They are saying AI has largely cut down cinema visualisation timeline and is very helpful in making films. 

At the same time, even the audience are largely polarised when it comes to usage of AI. While certain people are not minding the artificial imagery generated by these platforms, many people are calling for realism and creative imagination that comes from authentic cinema making in traditional style.

At the end of the day, AI obviously can’t bring out true human emotions which is its biggest detractor. But at the same time, AI has brought down the processing time to 1/10th of the traditional visualisation and image generation activities.
