The third instalment of the avatar franchise has been titled Fire and Ash and it premiered across the globe on December 18 in a grand manner. Coming to the box office side of things, the film has opened on a reasonably decent note.
Reportedly the film is projected to open in the vicinity of $340 million to $380 million. The domestic market in the United States is contributing $90 million in revenue while the rest 250+ million is going to come from the international market.
The film is on track to open with at least $340 million and then if the reception from the audience is strong enough, it could be catapult to the $380 million mark as well. This might not sound much when compared to the traditional Marvel and DC films, but it is still a better start than the first part of Avatar.
Historical speaking at Avatar franchise films have been slow starters at the box office when compared to other Hollywood films, but they have peculiarly long run globally. This James Cameron creation is projected to be on the same course with the third instalment as well.
But it has to be seen if the film would join the $2 billion mark much like its predecessor, Avatar 2. Considering the mixed reviews from the global premier, it would take a mighty feat to reach this mark.
