These days it has become a dream for the Indian community to own a house in the United States after securing a stable job there. But the economics and the current housing market has become very complex and things are only going to get rough from here.
A reputed economist agency, Bankrate’s December 2025 analysis reveals that over 75% of U.S. homes on the market exceed affordability for median-income households earning around $80,000, requiring at least $113,000 annually for the typical $435,000 home.
This crisis aligns with a 4.7 million unit housing shortage and the already plummeting job market where layoffs have become a day-to-day activity even amongst major companies.
The situation is such that the job market is compressing every single day while the housing market is becoming increasingly and affordable and out of reach for the median household in the United States.
If the tough immigration policies and the subsequent impositions on the H1B Visas continue in the United States, then the volume of the Indian population acquiring houses in the United States could go down drastically.
