Paid premiere shows have now become common practice for films of all sizes before their official release. In recent times, especially for small budget movies, teams are planning special premiere shows one or two days in advance to create buzz. In some cases, this strategy has worked well by spreading positive word of mouth early. However, there have also been films that suffered due to negative feedback coming out even before release.
With more than half a dozen films hitting theatres this Christmas, movie teams are actively trying to highlight their film and gain attention through premieres. This weekend alone will see five Telugu films releasing, and three of them have already confirmed premiere shows. All Christmas releases are scheduled for Thursday.
Among them, the film Dandora, starring Shivaji, Navdeep, Nandu and Bindhu Madhavi, is heading for paid premieres two days before its release. These shows will be held on Tuesday night across major cities in both Telugu states. The next day, two more films will follow the same route.
Shambhala, which is being seen as a crucial film in Aadi Saikumar’s career, will have its premieres on Wednesday, and bookings are already open with a very positive response. On the same day, the horror film Eesha is also set for premiere shows.
Interestingly, Champion, the Roshan Meka starrer that carries the highest expectations among this week’s releases, does not appear to have any premiere plans so far. Still, considering the trend, it would not be surprising if special shows are announced at the last minute.
