Popular producer and leading exhibitor Daggubati Suresh Babu has been elected as the new president of Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce after his Progressive Panel emerged victorious in Sunday’s election against Mana Panel. Ashok Kumar will be the new secretary and happening producer Surya Devara Nag Vamshi will be one of the vice presidents along with Bharat Chowdary.
For this year’s election, two major panels were formed to contest for various posts across different sectors including producers, exhibitors, distributors and studios. Suresh led the progressive panel which also includes other leading names like Dil Raju, Allu Arvind, KS Rama Rao, Y. Ravi Shankar, Swapna Dutt and several others. The Mana Panel is led by Chadalavada Srinivas, C Kalyan, YVS Chowdary, Prasanna Kumar etc.
According to Film Chamber rules, this year’s president post will be held by exhibitors sector. So, Suresh Babu contested for the position and won with a decisive majority.
Chairpersons to all four sectors were held and 44 executive committee members from different groups were elected before the election of the president. 31 members from Progressive Panel and 17 members from Mana Panel were selected.
There are a total of 3,355 members registered with the chamber. Only 43% of them with 1421 votes were polled during this election. Many prominent heroes who are also producers didn’t exercise their voting rights in these elections. The new panel will lead the chamber till 2027.
