Stunning Theatrical Response for Stranger Things Season 5

Netflix’s sci-fi thriller Stranger Things, which kicked off its streaming journey way back in 2016 with its first episode, evolved as one of the most iconic original series in the history of OTT world over the years because all four seasons of the fictional horror drama received a tremendous viewership with a cult fanbase. 

The highly anticipated finale episode titled ‘Stranger Things Season 5’ unspooled in Netflix on December 31st on Netfli kg kgx. Giving a befitting tribute to this crowd pleasing series, Netflix has simultaneously released the Season 5 in limited screen count across North America. It was supposed to be a modest screening initially, but later released in nearly 620 screens across USA and Canada. 

Despite being available on Netflix, the theatrical response has been phenomenal and the trade circles are reportedly shocked with the earnings made by the ticket sales in just one and a half day.

Though there are no official box office numbers for these screenings because of residual and distribution complications tied to TV series, theatres are said to be charging seat reservation fees of $ 20 at AMC, which are then converted into concession vouchers. 

Trade estimates predict that the Season 5 has punched out more than $ 20M in less than two days and that too, despite the series being available on streamer with no extra cost. More than one million tickets were sold in no time. This is quite a sensational number and also trigger a debate on why not such a blockbuster series deserve a proper theatrical screening which could have boosted its commercial success. 

Trade experts say that Netflix might have lost so much money by not opting for a theatrical release. Before the release of Season 5, all episodes in the previous seasons were made available on Netflix. However, the platform experienced serves issues due to heavy traffic because of the craze surrounding the series among cinema buffs. 

The Millie Bobby Brown starrer, crafted by creators Matt and Ross Duffer, follows a group of adolescents in the fictional town of Hawkins as they battle supernatural threats from another world and features an ensemble cast.
