The social media debate over allotting sufficient number of screens to Dubbing films over Telugu movies is back again ahead of the much anticipated Sankranti film festival which is going kick off with the release of Prabhas starrer The Raja Saab.
Like every year, a bunch of Telugu films are gearing up to occupy majority of the screens in Telugu states during the week long festival. While big-ticket Telugu films like The Raja Saab and Mana Shankar Vara Prasad Garu are slated for release this Sankranti, Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay’s farewell film Jana Nayakudu( Jana Nayagan in Tamil) will also hit the screens during the same period.
Interestingly, The Raja Saab will have an head on clash with Jana Nayakudu. However, neither of them is perceived as threat to the other one because The Raja Saab will attract audiences in Telugu states and Jana Nayagan will have strong reception in Tamil Nadu.
But, here is the twist. While The Raja Saab is struggling to get decent number of screens in Tamil Nadu due to the release of Kollywood films, Jana Nayakudu is reportedly getting good number of screens in Telugu states even though the former is carrying tremendous buzz in Telugu states.
As per the initial theatre chart, Jana Nayakudu is said to be be alloted adequate number single screens in the Hyderabad city despite the fact that it is a dubbing film which is releasing amid several notable Telugu films during the biggest festival of the year.
Prabhas fans are absolutely unhappy and furious with the gross injustice because there won’t be a similar preferential treatment for Raja Saab in Tamil Nadu with competition from other Kollywood biggies. They are expressing their frustration on social media platforms and demanding the distributors to ensure that Raja Saab gets proper number of screens in the city.
The Raja Saab should actually have a head start at the box office because it is releasing three days before other films. But, as Jana Nayakudu is releasing through PVR INOX distribution, fans are feeling anxious that many PVR multiplexes all over Hyderabad may likely prefer screening good number of shows despite strong anticipation for Raja Saab.
The tradition of giving space for dubbed films over direct releases in Tollywood is not new. Every year, a similar controversy erupts whenever dubbing films opt for a simultaneous release along with Telugu movies with the support of Tollywood based buyers. Despite so much of furore from moviegoers before every Sankranti, the bad practice has not yet ended in Tollywood.
