Superstar Mahesh Babu and S. S. Rajamouli are collaborating on the prestigious project Varanasi. The team is ensuring that the updates of the movie remain under wraps and is maintaining a strict privacy policy.
Interestingly, during the initial stage of shooting, a video of Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran from the sets got leaked, which raised questions about Rajamouli’s strict security around the Varanasi project. However, with no further leaks surfacing for months now, the director seems to be proving that his team has tightened security and is managing the content flow effectively.
Interestingly, several international journalists were given a tour of the film’s sets at the time of the film’s teaser launch in November 2025. Surprisingly, Rajamouli and his team ensured to not bring this content out, shows how dedicated they are in surprising the audiences.
That footage was shot before 4 months by international journalists. Yet, not a single pic or video got leaked untill the team allows them now. This once again shows, how Rajamouli and his team are able to lock the content from leaks in most of the scenarios.
There have been a lot of noise that the Indian and local journalists were not given the exclusive access to the film’s sets but multiple international media persons were given a tour. The pictures have come out in media only now.
With this sudden leak, the existing buzz on the film has gone up now, assuring a visual spectacle in the offing. In the pictures and videos that are going viral, we can see iconic ghats, temples and the streets of Varanasi recreated at the studios. Since it is highly impossible for Rajamouli’s team to shoot the movie in the real locations, they are erecting the sets with striking resemblences to the original city. A major chunk of the movie is reportedly planned in the backdrop of Varanasi city.
The aerial footage of the ghats, the river side temples and the detailing that went into making these sets is exceptional. The miniature sets video which is trending showcases the enormous effort that is going into the art work. Rajamouli’s extreme detailing is visible last time when he worked on the project Baahubali. The extensive research that he does is phenomenal.
Also starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film is bankrolled by KL Narayana under Durga Arts banner. The film will release in 2027.
