Hype usually fades out when a sequel takes long gap to hit the screens after the first part. But, Kalki sequel seems like an exception to this trend because the second part commands massive anticipation even when there is no update from the team. This is because of the core emotion built by director Nag Ashwin with Kalki 2898AD.
Moreover, the star-studded casting is another reason why there is strong buzz on this Prabhas starrer despite the long delay.
While Nag Ashwin is currently busy filming important scenes involving stalwart actors Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan in the sequel, Prabhas is yet to join the sets due to his busy commitments with films like Fauzi and Spirit.
Though it is unclear if Prabhas can accommodate his full fledged dates for Kalki 2 this year given that he is fully immersed with both his upcoming pan-India projects, there is already a strong buzz that the makers of Kalki are planning to release the sequel in 2027. It is believed that the team wants to lock December 2027 as the potential release window for Kalki 2.
There are reports that Nag Ashwin is planning to wrap up all major portions by next June and shift his attention towards the extensive post production phase to release the film by the end of the year.
But, December 2027 seems improbable as of now given that Prabhas hasn’t commenced work on the sequel so far. With adequate portions of shooting left and also the fact that the post production will require more than six months after the entire shooting part is wrapped, Nag Ashwin is unlikely to rush things given that he would take his time to get perfect output for his world building on the big screen.
So, if the team wishes to have a smooth release, the chances for Kalki 2 hitting the screens in 2027 are very little as of now.
