Kollywood’s Cult Directors Are Giving Up On Biggies?

After facing a difficult phase at the box office, star directors Shankar and AR Murugadoss appear to be taking a different route to revive their fortunes. Instead of immediately mounting another massive big-budget spectacle, both filmmakers are reportedly focusing on fast-paced commercial entertainers with relatively controlled budgets.

Shankar, who faced disappointment with Game Changer starring Ram Charan, is said to be reassessing his approach and looking at projects that can be completed quickly. Similarly, AR Murugadoss is coming off an underwhelming outing with Salman Khan and is also exploring action-oriented subjects that can reconnect him with mainstream audiences.

Industry buzz suggests that both directors have been holding discussions with several young and upcoming heroes in Tamil and Telugu cinema. The idea is to return to the style of storytelling that made them household names before venturing into another large-scale production.

For Shankar, this could mean a return to strong commercial narratives without the burden of gigantic budgets. Murugadoss, meanwhile, may focus on the action-thriller space that once delivered some of his biggest successes.

The biggest question now is: which heroes will place their faith in these celebrated filmmakers? While their track records command respect, recent setbacks have made actor-director combinations more crucial than ever. The coming months could determine whether these veterans can script a successful comeback.
