Dhanush Hits Back at National Award Trolls

When the National Film Awards were announced, a lot of Tamil critics and audiences felt that Meiyazhagan deserved to be on the list. Instead, when the jury confirmed awards for Raayan and Captain Miller, comparisons began, with many criticizing Dhanush’s award.

Dhanush is a great talent who, when recognized, can go the extra mile in further entertaining the fans and audiences. But the criticism that came in the recent past disturbed him a little. He admitted that Meiyazhagan was a better film than Raayan but also shared his view on the criticism.

Dhanush strongly feels that there are other films that are definitely better than Raayan. However, he shared that there was a time when no one spoke when Dhanush’s films really deserved the awards.

“I agree that films like Meiyazhagan and Maharaja were among the better films than Raayan last year. But when films like Pudhupettai, Vada Chennai, Karnan, Maryan, and Raanjhanaa were released, no one came forward to strongly support the idea that they deserved National Awards,” shared Dhanush.

Many fans argue that what Dhanush says is true because he worked extremely hard in films like Maryan, Pudhupettai, Karnan, and even Raanjhanaa. Most of these films have attained cult status today. However, when the time came, none of them received the recognition they deserved through awards.

“Today, nearly 90% of people are opposing my National Award. But when several of my films missed out on National Awards they truly deserved, not even 10% of people spoke about it,” said Dhanush, which is a fact.

Decisions like these can always be subjective because we can not expect everyone to unanimously like a film. But, when there is a chance to recognise and appreciate someone’s effort, we must all take a minute to fulfill it with utmost sincerity than criticising the very decision.
