Fans in India will not be watching the same version of Spider-Man: Brand New Day that is releasing in other countries. Ahead of its release, the Central Board of Film Certification cleared the film with a UA 13+ certificate.
However, the CBFC ordered the removal of an eight-second kissing scene from the film. The board also instructed the makers to remove certain objectionable words from the audio and subtitles in the movie.
After these modifications were made, the film received a UA 13+ certificate, making it suitable for viewers above the age of 13 with parental guidance. The final approved runtime of the movie is 2 hours and 24 minutes.
The censor cuts have once again sparked discussions among movie lovers on social media. Many fans questioned why romantic scenes are often edited despite the film already carrying an age-based rating.
Online reactions have been mixed, with some supporting the decision and others criticizing it. Despite the controversy, excitement for Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains high, and the film is expected to open strongly in India this week.
