PVR INOX had decided to expand itself to smaller towns. They are reportedly planning to open 300 affordable Smart Cinema halls in smaller Indian towns with tickets under Rs 190 to attract new audiences and expand beyond major cities over three years.
If these theaters come up in AP and Telangana, the first feeling is that they may have an impact on the Single Screens as the audience may opt for Multiplex experience at more or less same prices.
But then, PVR INOX are known for match box sized screens even in cities. If they expand to the smaller towns, at best, these screens will be 2K XENON Projectors with Home Theaters like screens.
Audience will prefer to watch in better single screens in that case. Also, the prices of F&B are also important in Smaller Towns.
If they continue to mint the patrons with over-priced popcorn and soft drinks, the smaller towns expansion will be impossible as these are price-conscious markets.
This will be an interesting development for sure. But if they play it smart, these theaters will endanger the Single Screen theaters.
