Never Ever Blame Telugu Audience Again!

In movie parlance, Content is always the King. In fact, it is the driving factor behind everything from earning revenues to producers and bringing stardom to actors. This popular belief has got validation yet again as Tollywood delivered a triple hat-trick of blockbusters starting from Ram Charan’s Peddi to Ravi Teja’s Irumudi – a rare success streak in recent years.

What makes this purple patch more special is that it arrived at a time when the Telugu film industry is battling several internal challenges like theatres issues, ticket prices, profit sharing differences and mounting budgets.

On the top of all these issues, the latest myth of industry observers that footfalls started dwindling due to rising OTT viewership and little window between theatrical and digital releases has been shattered because all these blockbuster films have drawn massive crowds to cinemas across all territories of Telugu states.

Until recently, there has been a growing notion that the curiosity of moviegoers to watch films on the big screen started fading away as majority preferring OTT viewing to traditional theatre experience.

But, if we look at how straight Telugu films like Peddi, Maa Inti Bangaram, Lenin, Chennai Love Story, Korean Kanakaraju, Irumudi and dubbing films like Vishwanath and Sons, DC and Veerabhadrudu set the cash registers ringing against all odds, it clearly proves that the audience is craving for a good cinema to make a beeline at the ticket windows irrespective of the OTT window and other factors.

In some of the earlier media interactions, several producers also blamed audience for the dry phase at the box office. They argued that moviegoers are not keen to come to theatres unless it is a big-ticket film. This misconception has also been exposed now the string of hits.

The fact that all these films turned out to be money spinners without any festival advantage but just because of positive reviews and glowing word of mouth irrespective of the OTT window clears the blame from audience. A good film is a mere requirement for them to flock screens.
