Versatile actress, Vidya Balan, who acted in short film Natkat back in July 2019, has now entered the race for Oscars 2021 in the Best Short Film category. Written by Annukampa Hars, Natkat featured Vidya Balan and a child artiste Sanika Patel.
Vidya Balan shared the news about the film entering into Oscar’s race with a lot of pride on her social media. She wrote: “So so so thrilled that our film #NATKHAT is in the race for the #OSCARS2021 after 2020 filled with prestigious international film festivals.” Natkat was directed by Shaan Vyas, who earlier produced films like Masaan and Zubaan. Natkat was co-produced by Ronnie Screwvala.
Later, Vidya also shared a small clipping from the short film, which shows Vidya, as a mother, teaching her son, Sanika Patel, on patriarchy, toxic masculinity, and gender quality as a part of their bedtime stories. Talking about Oscars, this year will be 93rd academy awards, which would take place on April 25.
Back in 2019, when Natkat was released, the short film was premiered at Tribeca’s We Are One: A Global Film Festival. Later, it was also premiered at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne and London Indian Film Festival. Natkat also won the German Star of India Award at the Indian Film Festival Stuttgart.
