The recent earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand was a substantial enough to create severe property damage and also human fatalities. Incidentally, there were viral videos on social media where we saw multi-storey buildings and high-rise apartments in Myanmar and Thailand absolutely shaking up with seismic waves caused by the earthquake.
This has now led to a discussion about the quality of the constructions and the risk factor associated with the first growing high rise Apartment culture in Hyderabad.
According to an industry expert, who is active on social media, “The recent Bangkok earthquake and the damage to some tall buildings have left Hyderabad’s high-rise buyers worried. Both cities are in low-risk earthquake zones, but Hyderabad sits on solid sheet rock, making it much safer than Bangkok’s clayey soil, which amplifies seismic waves.
But, there is definitely some concern with those fancy sky bridges & sky pools! They look cool but can be risky during earthquakes. One good thing is that most Hyderabad high-rises use Mivan shear wall technology, which makes buildings structurally stronger.” It was assessed.
However, with such natural calamity incidents, there are always concerns about these “what if” situations. Especially so, considering the fact that the Hyderabad skyline is touching 40+ floors these days.
Generally, these high-rise apartments come at a premium price and the penthouses and top floor apartments tend to secure bigger prices. In view of these earthquake incidents and related viral videos, will we see a slowdown in this market? Only time will tell.
