US Cancels 6,000 Students Visas In 2025!

The Trump administration, in its continued crackdown on immigration and international students, has revoked more than 6,000 international student visas so far this year. The visas were revoked as the students violated US laws or were found engaged in activities deemed a threat to national security. The revocation of visas is part of Trump’s wider agenda to impose stricter visa regulations and tighten immigration policies.

According to an official in the State Department, over 200-300 student visa holders’ visas were revoked as they were found to be involved in terrorism-related activities. The revocations fall under provisions in the Immigration and Nationality Act, under which foreign nationals are not allowed into the country, for having links with terrorist groups being extremist in behaviour.

It is learnt that individuals who had criminal offences in their records and violated the immigration rules formed the major number of people, whose visas were cancelled. An official stated that over 4,000-6,000 revocations were issued to individuals involved in assault, burglary and driving under the influence, all accounting for breaking the law. A few others whose visas were revoked resorted to visa overstays and violation in terms of stay.

Also recently, Trump administration has taken measures to see that international students do not get admissions easily in the US universities. Federal scrutiny has been increased on campus activism, particularly protests related to the Israel-Gaza conflict. Trump insisted that the protests reflected antisemitic tone, which created a hostile environment for Jews, among the student and faculty members.

Trump specially targeted the Ivy League institutions like Harvard University, Brown University, University of California, and University of Pennsylvania for allegedly tolerating antisemitic activity on campus. He tried to block funding for the Harvard University too.
