An Indian-origin businessman was targeted and shot dead outside his house in his car Canada’s British Columbia province, according to media reports and the police. No other person was injured in the incident.
The businessman, Darshan Singh Sahsi (68), was killed on Monday, in the province’s Abbotsford city. On information, police rushed to Ridgeview Drive where they found Sahsi inside his car, with near fatal injuries. Abbotsford Police said that the Indian businessman succumbed to his injuries despite medical team’s efforts to save his life.
Initially, the police did not identify Sahsi but the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) later named him as the victim. The Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate claimed responsibility for the killing. Goldie Dhillon posted on social media claiming that Sahsi was murdered as he denied of an extortion demand.
The gang also alleged that Singh was involved in drug trafficking operation. Reportedly, Sahsi refused to pay the amount demanded by the gang and even blocked their number.
Following the shooting, brief lockdowns were imposed at nearby schools. Sahsi belonged to Ludhiana and was the president of Canam International, a clothing recycling firm. The probe revealed that the shooter waited in a parked car nearby Sahsi’s house and when he got into the vehicle, the assailant opened fire and fled in his car. Dhillon is a notorious criminal associated with the Bishnoi gang.
