The Donald Trump administration in the United States has significantly tightened immigration policies, and this is clearly reflecting in the country’s visa issuance process.
Now, the surprising case of an Indian techie who applied for a B1/B2 visa to travel temporarily to the United States is grabbing attention, as it highlights the strict visa regulations currently in place.
Reportedly, this Indian software engineer earns around ₹1 crore annually in India. He holds a stable job, has a well-settled family, and applied for a U.S. visa that was shockingly rejected in less than a minute.
Going into the story, the engineer had been invited to a conclave in Atlanta this year and applied for a temporary visa to attend it. Much to his surprise, his visa application was rejected within 60 seconds at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi.
The visa officer reportedly asked him about his travel history, ties to India, and the purpose of his visit to the U.S. Despite answering all the questions properly, his visa was quickly rejected under Section 214(B), which indicates that the applicant failed to establish strong ties to his home country.
Interestingly, the applicant has a high-paying job in India and an infant daughter, factors generally considered as strong reasons for a temporary visa. Yet, that didn’t help his case, as the officer still rejected the application.
If this is the situation for a high-earning software engineer with a solid financial record and decent travel history, then other applicants hoping to secure a U.S. visa could be in for an even tougher challenge, as the process is becoming increasingly difficult to crack.
