Even as the Indian community is grieving the recent tragedies abroad in which a couple of young girls got swept away during a beach vacation and a boy died due to skydiving flight crash, another unfortunate demise has now come as a big shock.
As per the latest reports, an 18-year-old Indian youth lost his life after a horse-drawn carriage suddenly overturned during a ride through New York City’s iconic Central Park. What was supposed to be a long-awaited family vacation turned into a devastating tragedy for his family.
The victim Romanch Mahajan was visiting New York for the first time alongside his father Deepak Mahajan and other family members. The incident occurred on Wednesday while the family was enjoying the trip across the New York city.
Going into the incident, the driver of the carriage stepped down from the vehicle to take a photograph of the tourists. The horse immediately panicked and bolted. Due to the sudden movement of the horse, carriage surged forward uncontrollably and Romanch fell heavily from the vehicle. He sustained severe head injuries and passed away even though he was immediately rushed to hospital.
Two other passengers luckily managed to jump out of the moving carriage to save themselves. The runaway carriage eventually overturned after striking the wheels of another vehicle nearby. The other family members involved in the accident sustained minor injuries. Video footage featuring the shocking incident has since emerged online.
