The post was shared by Trump on Truth Social and was later amplified by the White House on X. However, neither Trump nor the White House gave any explanation about whether the image was meant to suggest an actual name change.

Importantly, New Mexico has not been officially renamed. There is no formal proposal or announced government action to change the legal name of the state. The state continues to be officially known as New Mexico.

The latest post has attracted attention because it comes soon after Trump’s recent moves involving geographical names. His administration has already pushed the use of “Gulf of America” for the Gulf of Mexico and “Lake America” for Lake Ontario in US federal usage.

Trump’s latest move has also triggered criticism, particularly from Democratic leaders in New Mexico. The state’s name has a long history, with the term New Mexico dating back centuries before it became part of the United States.

For now, “New America” remains only a name shown in Trump’s social media post and not the official name of the state. Still, the post has added another unexpected chapter to Trump’s continuing push around American identity and geographical names.
