Talk Of The Town: ‘CM down down’ Slogans On Indrakeeladri!

Hindu devotees were up in arms against Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for the poor arrangements made at the Kanakadurga temple in Vijayawada. They complained that never were they made to stand so long in the queue to have the darshan of the goddess, during their visits to the Indrakeeladri temple.

During the Dasara festival, many people, including young and old, in the Krishna, Guntur and coastal districts take up Bhavani deeksha and wear Bhavani malas. Such devotees are called Bhavanis.

Bhavanis throng the Durga temple on Vijaya Dasami day and relinquish the deeksha. However, the arrangements made at the temple are very poor. “The young Bhavanis are trekking the Indrakeeladri mountain without any safety gear and it could prove dangerous. We informed the collector and temple EO about this but no action has been taken so far”, complained a devotee at the temple.

“There is no orderliness here. The pilgrims are not being treated properly. It is because the CM is not a Hindu and he does not have any respect towards the Hindu gods that the Bhavanis are not revered”, said one of the Bhavanis.

Angered over the laxity in the arrangements, the devotees shouted “CM down down” slogans even while they were in the queues. Pilgrims have come from far off places to have darshan of the goddess but the queue lines have not been demarcated properly.

There is no drinking water facility even when we were made to stand in the queue for long, complained another pilgrim at the temple.

Hindu devotees have been complaining of discrimination against them in the YCP rule. In the past, there had been a series of attacks on temples and one of the cabinet ministers even took light of the issue. The Hindus even faulted the government for not catching the culprits behind the temple attacks so far.
