Gambling is illegal and the police arrest those involved in it. The YCP government imposed a ban on the rooster fight too terming it a bloody sport and has been cracking down on the organisers, during Sankranti festivities.
However, in Gudivada, the native constituency of minister Kodali Nani, gambling was organized without any restrictions on K Convention premises, belonging to none other than the minister.
In the name of Sankranti Sambaralu, gambling activities were held on the premises of the K Convention which was specially illuminated for the festival.
Reportedly, rooster fights and gambling dens, along with a special casino centre, were arranged to keep the customers cheerful and happy. The entry fee into the casino was reportedly pegged at a whopping Rs 10,000, else the customers were not allowed to step into the place.
There are reports that the interiors of the K Convention were decked up akin to Goan casinos and cheer girls were also employed to dance and entertain the guests. The entertainment at the K Convention was arranged at a completely different level, which had not been seen so far in the small town.
Teen Patti and various poker games were also organized on the premises of the convention.
All precautions were taken to avoid filming of K Convention and the activities inside it by deploying bouncers from Hyderabad on the vigil.
It may be recalled that minister Kodali Nani had spoken light of the unlawful activities in Gudivada even after being summoned and given a dressing down by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy a couple of years ago.
He shot back at the media and said: “What is so sensational in the arrests? What will happen to those arrested for involvement in gambling? Will they be hanged to death? At the most, fine would be imposed and they would be let off.”
These controversial comments by Nani should help one know that even now, there would not be any hullabaloo about the Goa-type casino setting at K Convention.
