‘ANR’ District Is The New Demand In AP

Recently, the Andhra Pradesh government released draft notifications for the creation of 13 new districts out of the existing 13, bringing the total number to 26. “The government, in the interest of better administration and development of the areas concerned, proposes to form a new district under Section 3 (5) of the AP Districts (Formation) Act, 1974,” said Chief Secretary Sameer Sharma in the draft notification, which was issued separately for each district.

Meanwhile, several discussions, demands, and concerns continue over the formation of new districts in AP. Even differences of opinions have been triggered in the process and demands are already being made to name the new districts after Vangaveeti Ranga and Bhuma Nagireddy. The latest is, fans of Tollywood’s legendary actor ANR demanded to name the district after him and raised the proposal on the same to the AP government.

Talking in detail, in the process of the reorganisation of the districts being done under the Section 3 of the Andhra Pradesh Districts (Formation) Act, 1974, one of the new districts is Machalipatnam. For this, the majority of people demanded to change the name to Akkineni Nageswara Rao district. All India Akkineni Association head Sarveswara Rao urged the same to the AP Government.

Late ANR was born in Gudiwada’s Ramapuram and people recalled how he is one of the most prominent figures in the history of Indian cinema. Considered as one of the two pillars of Telugu Cinema, he is a recipient of the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, the highest Indian award in the field of cinema. He was one of the instrumental figures in moving the Telugu cinema industry from Madras to Hyderabad in the early 1960s. ANR worked hard to establish Annapurna Studios in 1976 to provide infrastructural support to the Telugu film industry in Hyderabad.

In addition, some other demands are heard in the division of districts. The locals want Rajampet to be declared as the district headquarters instead of Rayachoti and Narsapuram instead of Bhimavaram. The people also want the districts to be declared as Madanapalle, Prakasam district Markapuram, Kurnool district Adoni, Visakhapatnam district Rampachodavaram and Narsipatnam centres. The people there are demanding that Puttaparthi district be made the centre of Hindupuram.
