The Supreme Court issued notices to the Andhra Pradesh government for diverting funds supposed to be released to the bereaved families of Covid victims. The apex court directed the state governments to release financial aid of Rs 50,000 to each family which had lost any of their family members to Covid.
All the state governments in the country agreed to it and released the funds after identifying the victims. However, the AP government had not released the money stating that it does not have sufficient funds. It was found that the AP government diverted the funds under the FRBM Act to personal accounts.
A PIL was filed urging the authorities to release financial aid to the bereaved families of Covid victims, the hearing of which was taken up by the Supreme Court during the pandemic.
After hearing to the arguments, the apex court directed the state governments to release financial aid to the victims’ families to which the Centre also agreed.
The YCP government does not seem to hearing to any of the directions or orders by the apex court. It has its own way of neglecting the authorities and courts, said a TDP leader.
